Wink’s 2011 Arizona Vacation
James, Kate, and KT met me at the Mesa airport and we drove down to Tucson to spend 4 ˝ days at several enourmous tents and motel/hotels looking at fossils, gems, minerals, lampwork and vintage beads, shells etc. We walked from 9am to 6pm when it closed with a short break for a lunch from Tucson Tamales or Pad Thai or fresh Naan and curry.
KT tired after walking around the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show!
We found a wonderful local restaurant called Chopsticks for dinner one night and lunch the next day. In front is their chicken in lettuce pockets, then sesame seaweed salad, and a noodle bowl.
We drove up to the Tucson Desert Museum on our way back to Mesa. Here are some fossils-notice the bird nest with eggs
A view at the Desert Museum of Saguaro cacti with mountains in the distance
It finally warmed up so we had an impromptu picnic in the sun! Jim, Kate, and KT
We had another picnic at a Riparian Park in Gilbert, AZ. The variety of cacti was wonderful
Saw at least two great blue heron fishing on one of the many lakes in the park
KT ruffled some of the snowy stuff on one plant beside a stream!
We liked the heart shape of this cactus
KT wanted me to take a picture of these berries
We waited an hour for a table at this wonderful Mexican restaurant!
Jim drove KT and me out to 3 National Parks near Mesa. Here they were looking for pretty rocks.
The view from the parking lot was so cool. If you take a left you head down to Saguaro Lake.
The sunset on Sunday night was just spectacular. We walked down to borrow some Meyer lemons from a neighbor and saw a hummingbird, a woodpecker, and some prairie chickens. The sunset just kept getting
better and better. Our trip started out with really chilly weather but the last two days it got up into the low 80’s. Poor Mark was home in Kansas with a sick dog and snow with temps after -17. I think I really lucked out. J
Thanks James and Kate for another wonderful vacation in paradise!
