We rented a house and vacationed in Orleans, MA this year. It was a three bedroom cape which slept six and was just off Beach Rd in East Orleans. We rented it for a week. It was a fairly private setting. Here is the house.
We went down to the beach to check things out the first night.
We had gathered the crew for fishing on Sunday. But the weather didnít cooperate and the fishing was postponed until Wednesday evening. The fishing expedition is described here.
On Tuesday we journeyed up to Provincetown to go whale watching. We got tickets for the 1:30 PM trip and then went shopping and in search of lunch. We went to a bookstore where Nancy bought a locally written book and got a recommendation for lunch at the authorís restaurant. †We went to the restaurant,Pepes, and chilled until they opened for lunch. †At first they were not happy we showed up a half hour before they opened, but the author signed Nancyís book and warmed up to us when they figured out the book store owner referred us to them. It was a great lunch up on the deck overlooking the harbor.
We enjoyed our lunch. Then we shopped for a bit. Finally we headed out to the pier and caught our boat.
Might be whales?
It was warm and calm with †very little wind out there. We saw more than 28 different humpbacks and 12 minke whales in all plus one little harbor seal. We observed several types of whale behavior. The video is of a young male communicating. The humpbacks were running in groups and doing bubble ring feeding. It was spectacular to watch.
Great Whale Watch!
After whale watching, we got dinner and headed to the beach. The ladies decided to defend the beach and that meant constructing fortifications. We brought heavy equipment for the task.
Seal watching us!
All in all, it was a great vacation.
