Chester was a good pet and I will share some stories about him. He lived with Jay and Mel Moeller on Concord Ct in Dubuque, Iowa.
In October 2004, I ended up taking Chester on his evening walk quite often. I didn’t realize this but this dog was not apolitical. On the evening walk he make a political statement on the lawns of people who had Bush Cheney signs in their yards. Somehow I felt that was as good a place as any.
Chester was a bit of a chow hound. Eventually he had to go on a diet. He was not shy about supplementing his diet however he could.
Chester was a mentor to our dog Frodo. Chester taught our dog how to pre clean the dishes as they go into the dishwasher. He also taught Frodo how to knock over the waste basket to get at the goodies in the trash. This came back to haunt us one night when we got bone in chicken wings instead of boneless. We put the chicken bones in the kitchen garbage and the temptation was too much for Frodo. He knocked the garbage over and ate some of the delicious chicken wings. Andrew stayed up with him all night to make sure he passed the bones without any problems.
Dad tells a story about Aunt Reva. He said she was appalled that Chester helped with the dishes. Dad says he put a dish on the floor and let Chester lick it clean. Then he re-shelved the dish in front of Reva just to get her goat. I understand it worked.
I guess this next sequence suggests he was also a bit of a lush. If Jay had a beer, Chester was due the drippings…….
Rest In Peace
